First Empire Adds Asset-Backed Securities Trader and Expands Product Lineup
HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Oct. 14, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- First Empire Securities, a fixed income broker-dealer working with institutions nationwide, is pleased to announce the arrival of George Smith as a managing director in the firm's New York office. He most recently managed the MBS business at Hilltop Securities and has previously managed the asset-backed securities (ABS) trading desks at Cantor Fitzgerald, Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns and HSBC. Mr. Smith will be responsible for the build out of First Empire's ABS business.

Mr. Smith's business will focus on private label/non-agency residential mortgage-backed securities, as well as the entire range of asset-backed securities, including those backed by auto loans and leases, credit card receivables, student loans, floor plan receivables and other consumers and business receivables.
His arrival is the latest move to expand the broker-dealer's institutional offerings. In late 2015, the firm hired several municipal bond traders and began offering access to new issue municipal bonds. Earlier this year, a CD and structured note underwriting team joined the firm.
