PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Flipboard introduces Promoted Items, a service that lets brands distribute content such as articles, videos, products or photos inside the personal magazine. Each item is beautifully designed and a seamless part of the Flipboard experience, while being clearly labeled "promoted" and attributed to a brand.
On February 1, the Levi's® brand and NARS Cosmetics will be among the first brands to distribute content on Flipboard via Promoted Items. University of California follows suit by promoting content from its popular brand magazine, Fiat Lux, full of stories about scientific research and the Global Food Initiative.
"As brands continue to become content creators we want Flipboard to be an easy place to extend distribution of their stories, products, research papers, films and photography," said Christine Cook, head of advertising partnerships at Flipboard. "Brands that already have content in brand magazines on Flipboard can now highlight the best pieces more broadly across Flipboard and reach an audience of millions."
Advertisers can promote items from their Flipboard brand magazines or content from their website—or even the entire brand magazine itself. Promoted Items is a powerful new tool that also allows advertisers to ask users to take a specific action, such as signing up for a newsletter or following their magazine on Flipboard.
Additionally, with Promoted Items, publishing partners can now expand the native advertising they're running on their own sites to Flipboard. Native ads have become an industry mainstay that many publishers have embraced and are looking to make more scalable. With Promoted Items, Flipboard easily extends publishers' inventory, becoming a frictionless and lucrative addition to a buy.
"For the past seven years, we've worked closely with brands to create content that our readers can easily discover, no matter where they are," said Emily Allen, SVP of Ad Strategy at Business Insider. "Promoted Items allows us to extend our sponsored content's reach to millions of Business Insider followers on Flipboard monthly. It's a powerful vehicle for increasing discovery."
In this first phase of the Promoted Items, for the placement of the content, brands can select an interest channel such as News, Tech, Sports, Business, Style, Entertainment, Auto, Lifestyle, Design, Travel or Culinary & Food.
Flipboard's mission is to move the world forward through the discovery and sharing of great content, giving people a personal magazine filled with stories that move them to be better at whatever they care about. People using Flipboard can follow their favorite sources from around the world and then collect stories, images and videos in their own magazines. They can then share their magazines to reflect their interests and express their perspectives, or simply save things they want to enjoy later. Start by downloading Flipboard at www.flipboard.com.
