Flood Control, Inc. Donates One Dollar to Breast Cancer Research for Every New Facebook Fan

BOHEMIA, N.Y., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Three weeks ago, Flood Control, Inc. (a professional, damage restoration company), announced that it would donate one dollar to breast cancer research for every new member that joined their new Facebook fan page over a two week period. The organization to receive the charity is the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer during their New York City walk in October. The charity started on Monday, June 7th, 2010 with 165 existing fans and on June 18th, Flood Control grew to 519 fans. As a result, Flood Control gained 354 new members or 354 dollars towards breast cancer research.

Flood Control Partner, Steven Hittelman said the following in regards to the contribution, "Community involvement is always important and it is inspiring to hear what Avon has done for breast cancer awareness and research for so many years. We are happy to be a part of their effort." With breast cancer rising at such an alarming rate, it is crucial that everyone do whatever they can to help. Outlets like Facebook and Twitter are great tools a business can use to reach out and interact with others for such a cause.

The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer is held in multiple US cities each year. The purpose of the walks is to raise money and awareness for breast cancer, as well as, provide support for all those affected by the disease. The walks can be challenging but exciting events to be a part of. All meals, snacks, and trail support are provided. Anyone can participate but each walker must raise a minimum of $1800. From 2003-2009, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer event series coast-to-coast has raised more than $345 million.

Flood Control is no stranger when it comes to charitable work. Most recently, Flood Control has worked with LARRI (Lakeshore Area Regional Recovery of Indiana) -- an organization that assists survivors of the September 2008 floods in Indiana. Even though the floods occurred two years ago, the damage from them is still very real and apparent. One of the biggest factors the area deals with now is mold. With mold remediation being one of Flood Control's specialties, they have been able to go into the area, remove mold from affected sites, educate staff, supervisors and volunteers about mold and even put LARRI site supervisors through IICRC courses so that they can deal with the mold themselves.

In the coming weeks, Flood Control plans to work with Vincent and Catherine Gaynor – founders of Sophia's Cure Foundation. Sophia's Cure Foundation is a non for profit organization which was formed shortly after their daughter was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The foundation was created to assist in funding for clinical research towards finding a cure for SMA and to offer support to families affected by this disease by providing advocacy, awareness, education and support. Flood Control is looking forward to building a relationship with Sophia's Cure Foundation and help raise money and awareness for them as well.
