Florida Bar Association Confers President's Pro Bono Service Award On Steven D. Kramer of Kramer Law Firm

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla., Feb. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Florida Bar Association awarded the President's Pro Bono Service Award for the 18^th Judicial Circuit to Steven D. Kramer of the Kramer Law Firm during a ceremony at the Florida Supreme Court on January 31, 2013.

Kramer Law Firm associate attorney, Justin Seekamp -- who has himself been recognized as the 2012 Pro Bono Champion by Community Legal Services of Mid-Florida, Inc. -- states, "This award is an affirmation of Mr. Kramer's, and our entire firm's, dedication to serving the Central Florida community and those most in need."  Kramer is known for accepting laborious and complex cases that other attorneys have often declined.  One case involved a disabled child who was at risk of being expelled from school or placed into an alternative school for misconduct, which was a manifestation of the child's disability.  Kramer referred the child to a psychiatrist for evaluation, and together with the psychiatrist, was able to educate the school committee at a hearing that the child's misconduct was a manifestation of his disability. Despite favorable recommendations at the hearing, the school's administration referred the child to the alternative school against medical advice. Kramer advanced the matter to the school board level and on the threshold of significant litigation and administrative proceedings; he was able to have the child reinstated at his high school.

During even the best economic times, pro bono legal services are necessary to ensure that community residents and the poor have access to legal representation. Kramer received the award partly because he has provided more than 1000 hours of pro bono legal services to the poor of Central Florida. Kramer, "selflessly serves the people of Seminole County with distinction," accords James J. DeKleva who endorsed Kramer for the award.
