Flywheel Sports & NFL Debut "Ride for Super Bowl XLVIII"
A Program to Benefit the Snowflake Foundation and NFL PLAY 60
NEW YORK, Jan. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Flywheel Sports and the National Football League today announce a month-long program, Ride for Super Bowl XLVIII, to benefit the NY/NJ Snowflake Youth Foundation and NFL PLAY 60. Ride for Super Bowl XLVIII includes in-studio challenges at Flywheel locations in the tri-state area, an event series with NFL Legends, a pop-up Flywheel studio at NFL House presented by Verizon during Super Bowl weekend, and more. All funds raised will assist the Snowflake Youth Foundation in transforming after-school facilities for youth in the New Jersey and New York metro area, as well as NFL PLAY 60 in its mission to tackle childhood obesity through in-school, afterschool and team-based programs.
Ride for Super Bowl XLVIII kicks off with a two part points challenge for Flywheel riders in the tri-state region: an individual points challenge and a regional points challenge. As part of the individual points challenge, The Flywheel 4,800 Challenge, riders will aim to achieve 4,800 Power Points during the month of January. Power Points are accumulated using Flywheel's proprietary performance tracking technology and riders can track their progress on their personal account page via www.flywheelsports.com. All riders who achieve the 4,800 Power Points goal will be eligible to receive prizes, which will include autographed items from NFL Legends, NFLShop.com gift cards, NFL apparel and the chance to participate in a celebrity ride during Super Bowl weekend.
In addition to The Flywheel 4,800 Challenge, Flywheel will host a regional points challenge to benefit the NFL's youth initiatives. Flywheel will combine Power Points generated by all riders in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut during the month of January. For every million Power Points, Flywheel will donate $10,000 to the Snowflake Youth Foundation and NFL PLAY 60*. A live tracker on flywheelsports.com will tally all points throughout the month.
Ride for Super Bowl XLVIII also will include an event series to benefit both the Snowflake Youth Foundation and NFL PLAY 60. NFL Legends will host Flywheel classes at local studios in the tri-state area in the weeks leading up to The Big Game. Riders can cycle alongside some of their favorite former pros and also will be automatically entered to win a series of prizes from Flywheel and the NFL. Additionally, Flywheel will be hosting the second annual Flywheel Challenge at NFL House presented by Verizon, the NFL's exclusive hospitality venue during Super Bowl weekend. NFL stars and celebrities will compete to determine the strongest athlete on the Flywheel "Firefly" bike. Five lucky winners of The Flywheel 4,800 Challenge also will have the chance to compete in the Challenge.
In the Spring of 2013, the NFL Foundation and the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee announced a combined $2 million grant commitment, to be distributed by the Host Committee's Snowflake Youth Foundation, to areas in need around New York and New Jersey. The focus is on revitalizing and rebuilding places for youth to be active and healthy, including in areas affected by Superstorm Sandy. Capital improvement projects throughout the two states include field refurbishments, playground construction and equipment donations. All Flywheel riders in the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut regions are automatically entered to participate in Ride for Super Bowl XLVIII.
