Jonathan Reyes to Lead National Catholic Outreach
GOLDEN, Colo., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- FOCUS, one of the largest Catholic outreach and missionary organizations in the country, announced today that Jonathan Reyes will serve as the organization's next chief executive officer, effective Nov. 16. Reyes steps into the leadership of a strong and unchanging mission: helping people encounter Jesus Christ and equipping them to live as missionary disciples for the building up of the kingdom of God.
FOCUS walks alongside people in all stages of life, partnering with local Church leaders to equip men and women — through Bible studies, mentorship, mission trips and conferences — for a lifetime of evangelization and discipleship. Reyes' background is marked by decades of executive leadership in evangelization, charity and Catholic higher education, uniquely equipping him to take on this new role.
"Decades ago, I joined FOCUS at Curtis Martin's invitation to support the important work of missionary formation. That invitation changed my life in ways I never could have imagined," said Reyes. "Over the years, I have watched God use this apostolate to transform thousands of lives on college campuses and in parishes. That fruit is a sign of God's blessing and a testimony to the faithful leaders and missionaries who have given themselves completely to the Great Commission. It is a privilege to serve alongside them, and I pray God will continue to bless FOCUS for generations to come."
The FOCUS Board of Directors conducted a prayerful and thorough search, and Reyes emerged as the unanimous choice based on his long history with FOCUS, extensive experience leading Catholic organizations, and deep love for Jesus Christ and his Church. Reyes returns to FOCUS, where he previously served as Vice President of Ministry and Formation and as a member of the Board.
"From the start of our search, the Board considered it ideal to find someone who combined a proven record of executive leadership with firsthand knowledge of this apostolate. Jonathan has walked alongside our missionaries, and he returns with a real understanding of how this mission bears fruit," said William Mumma, chairman of the FOCUS Board of Directors. "We enter this next chapter with deep trust in the Lord's guidance and gratitude for the leaders who have paved the way, including Interim CEO Tim Thoman and Founder Curtis Martin."
Reyes has served for nearly 30 years in senior leadership and CEO roles, including his recent position as the Senior Vice President of Communications for the Knights of Columbus. His service in the Church includes nearly a decade with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in two senior roles and leading Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Denver. Reyes served as the co-founder and first president of the Augustine Institute and founded the apostolate Christ in the City while in his role at Catholic Charities. Reyes also previously taught history at Christendom College, where he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in European history from the University of Notre Dame.
"I've known and admired Jonathan Reyes for many years, both as a lay leader and a friend," said Archbishop Emeritus Charles J. Chaput of Philadelphia. "He's a man of exceptional Christian character, intellect, apostolic energy and professional skill. He knows the founder's vision and the wonderful FOCUS staff and missionaries from long personal experience, and he'll build on that to make the work of FOCUS even more fruitful in the years ahead. The FOCUS Board made exactly the right choice in a next-generation leader."
Reyes succeeds Interim CEO Tim Thoman, who has led FOCUS during the Board's national search since December 2025. Curtis Martin, who launched FOCUS in 1998, continues to serve the mission as Founder and a board member, drawing on his decades of experience to collaborate with Church leadership in advocating for the New Evangelization.
"I have been blessed to know Jonathan for more than 25 years," said Curtis Martin, founder of FOCUS. "Jonathan has extensive leadership experience working with the Church and a deep desire to help others encounter Jesus Christ. Please join me in praying for Jonathan as he helps lead FOCUS and carries this mission forward."
Reyes and his wife, Stephanie, have been married for 31 years and have seven children. They will relocate to Colorado, where Reyes will begin his tenure as CEO at FOCUS' national headquarters.
