For First Time, Alton Logan, Of Chicago, Tells Story Of How "Legal Ethics" Cost Him 26 Years In Prison For A Murder He Did Not Commit

BERKELEY, Calif., Oct. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Alton Logan spent 26 years in prison for a murder he did not commit, principally because four lawyers, who knew the identity of the real murderer --- he was their client --- remained silent for more than 2 ½ decades given that the legal ethical code requires lawyer-client confidentiality.

For the first time, Logan will tell his painful story when he discusses his new book, Justice Failed:  How "Legal Ethics" Kept Me to Prison for 26 Years at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 22 at the Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 2976-78 S. Wabash.  Co author, Berl Falbaum, veteran journalist/author, will join Logan.  The two will also speak at noon, Monday, October 23 in the Cook County Public Defender's Office, 69 Washington Street.

Logan describes how upon learning of his innocence, the lawyers drafted an affidavit testifying to his innocence and stored it in a strong box under the bed of one of the lawyers.  The attorneys finally came forward after their client died while in prison where he was serving time for the unrelated murders of two police officers.  Logan also states how he was the victim of police misconduct, and abuses by prosecutors.

The book has received praise from Kirkus Reviews, the New York Journal of Books and is an official Junior Library Guild Selection, adult crossover nonfiction.
