For National Stress Awareness Month (April) Learn a Radical and Simple Technique to Transform Stress in an Instant
PORT JEFFERSON STATION, N.Y., March 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- April is National Stress Awareness Month, and boy do we need it. According to the American Psychological Association (2010), a majority of Americans experience moderate or high levels of stress, but are "stymied in their efforts to make changes."
And although science is increasingly showing the benefits of meditation for stress relief, many people have trouble getting started or even finding time for it. And for someone who is already stressed, even the thought, "I should learn to meditate," can be stressful.
Martin Boroson, author of One-Moment Meditation: Stillness for People on the Go, has been quietly, radically changing the way we think about meditation - helping tens of thousands of people get started meditating and integrate it into their lives. His core message is that meditation doesn't have to take a lot of time - it only takes a moment.
"Many people believe that meditation requires a lot of time," says Boroson, "or that it has to be done somewhere that is already stress-free - such as a beautiful retreat, high up in the mountains. This means that we don't meditate when and where we need it most - right in the middle of our stress. But when you realize that meditation really only takes a moment, you can meditate at work, at home, when you're stuck in traffic, facing a crisis, or just waiting in line. Meditation becomes part of life, not separate from life."
Drawing on a background in business, psychology, and Zen practice, Boroson has trained stressed-out executives, corporate lawyers, and physicians (at Kaiser Permanente and UC Davis School of Medicine), and presented a 30-day course on stress relief for Oprah.com. The publication of his playful, practical book in eight languages - including Japanese and Chinese - shows that stress is a global problem, and that there's a big need for this novel approach.
On April 1, 2011, Boroson is launching a new form of meditation training - OMM365 - an e-training course in One-Moment Meditation that delivers an audio lesson by email, each week for a year, with an exercise that takes no more than one minute a day. Says Boroson, "No matter how busy you are, you surely have one minute to spare."
