Former Attorney General Joins Accelify's California Board of Advisors

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Accelify is proud to announce that former Indiana Attorney General Jeff Modisett, currently a partner at Bryan Cave in Los Angeles, is the latest leader to join Accelify's California Board of Advisors.

Modisett was elected as attorney general in 1996, and prior to that as the county prosecuting attorney in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He has worked as an independent consultant specializing in state and federal government relations; co-CEO of TechNet (a high-tech policy group); deputy CEO and general counsel of the 2000 Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles; and executive assistant to former Indiana Governor, Evan Bayh.  Modisett joins former Assembly member Marilyn Brewer who joined Accelify's California Board of Advisors last month.

After moving to Los Angeles, Modisett was named one of Southern California's "Superlawyers" by Los Angeles Magazine and Law & Politics from 2006-2010.  In 2009, he was also named one of the top 100 lawyers in Los Angeles by the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Jeff Modisett is a highly respected leader in the legal community in California and nationally. He serves as a legal advisor to Fortune 500 companies on a number of issues, and currently specializes in resolving complex legal problems prior to litigation, and in advising clients on positive alternative approaches to the state attorneys general as a method of resolving issues.

Modisett is best known for leading and assisting in the resolution of complex issues and litigation for clients such as Anthem, GlaxoSmithKline, Merlin Entertainments Group, Oracle and Sempra Energy.  As attorney general he became actively involved in two national efforts: the states' legal battle against the country's top cigarette manufacturers, and the investigation of the sweepstakes industry.  He was a member of the 1997 states' negotiating team that reached a preliminary settlement with the tobacco industry that called for landmark changes in the way cigarettes are marketed.  He was also chairman of the 1998 Allocation Committee that was responsible for devising a formula for distributing the $205 billion settlement to each of the states and territories.

Even though districts are entitled to Medi-Cal reimbursements, this federal program is a widely untapped funding source, with many districts claiming just 1/3 to 1/2 of their available reimbursements. The recently passed national health care legislation is expected to increase the number of Medicaid/Medi-Cal-eligible students by about 27%. This provides districts with an even greater opportunity to increase their federal reimbursement revenue at a time when state and local funding is in crisis.

In the first quarter of service Accelify was able to ensure more than 90% participation.  More recently, Accelify was selected by Travis Unified School District and has increased its MAA participation to 100%.
