Karnes brings more than 30 years of leadership experience across the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, including Technology, Professional Services, and Education. A lifelong entrepreneur and strategist, his career has centered on the core mission of harnessing innovation, operational excellence, and strategic planning to help businesses grow and thrive.

One of the standout chapters in Karnes' journey was leading the creation and expansion of Harris Interactive, the world's first internet-based market research firm. During his tenure, the company scaled to $260 million in revenue and went public with a nearly $450 million valuation, a testament to his ability to turn bold ideas into transformative outcomes.

Karnes also served as Group President at Harris Interactive, holding full P&L responsibility for a professional services operating group that delivered $50 million in revenues at 30%+ net operating income, while growing more than 20% YOY. Later, as the firm's Corporate Development Officer, Karnes developed and executed a global expansion strategy by successfully negotiating and closing more than $30 million of strategic acquisitions across North America, Europe, and Asia.

For more than a decade, Karnes served as the CEO of Student Agencies, Inc., an educational nonprofit where he coached and mentored more than 300 college students in the areas of business and entrepreneurship. In addition, during his tenure as CEO, he successfully completed a $26 million, 5-year development project for a new 60,000 sq. ft. mixed-use building featuring 100 residential units and three commercial tenants.

Born and raised in the Midwest, Karnes has lived most of his adult life in the Northeast before relocating to the Charlotte, NC area in 2024.
