Marty Turco is a three-time All Star and won the Dallas Stars community service award six of the nine seasons he was with the team. Turco also earned the Eighth Annual NHL Foundation Player Award in 2006 for his charitable impact and contributions. Since retirement, Turco has turned his attention to various business ventures and continues his charitable work with C5 Youth Foundation of Texas.
C5 Youth Foundation begun in 1999 by former Coca-Cola CEO John Alm, and has expanded through the years to empower at-risk youth to graduate from high school and go on to college and become contributing members of society. C5 is a five-year intensive leadership program located in four major regions for 8th through 12th graders, including Southern California (where it first started), New England, Georgia, and Texas. Today each of those organizations are independent entities and continue to offer tremendous support and resources to at-risk and in-need youth.
Marty and his wife Kelly have always been actively involved in the community to help children. Having young children of their own, combined with their shared backgrounds in education studies, made children's education and the C5 Youth Foundation a natural fit for the couple. Marty aims to build stronger business relationships, and provide more awareness about C5 in order to help the program grow.
Chuck Burkhart said of Marty, "He [Marty] has been a board member and a great friend to C5. Turco is a passionate leader and C5 will benefit from his forward-thinking perspective and influential business and personal network."
Marty Turco said of the opportunity, "I am looking forward to serving as CEO in an organization where I am already deeply invested in its mission. I hope to make a significant impact in the Foundation's future success as well as help improve the lives of numerous children throughout the state of Texas."
On Saturday, September 26th, the Turco's will host the Inaugural Behind the Masque Gala event at the luxurious Joule Hotel Dallas, and Blake and Tara Bozman will co-chair the event. The funds raised will support the organization's mission of providing middle and high school students from under-resourced communities the opportunity to participate in the five-year guidance program, and prepare them for leadership roles in college, work, and their communities.
In addition, on Monday, September 28th C5 will host their 9th Annual Golf Classic, which serves as their annual marquee fundraiser in the metroplex. Participants will tee off at 11:00 a.m. at the prestigious TPC Course at Craig Ranch in McKinney. The outing will include a fun-filled day on a championship style course where golfers will have the chance to win one million dollars. The golf tournament will conclude with an awards dinner where C5 Students will be in attendance and share their stories.
