Fortress International Group Selected as Design Builder for 399,000 Square Foot Mission-Critical Facility in Atlanta
COLUMBIA, Md., July 19, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fortress International Group, Inc. (Other OTC: FIGI), a provider of consulting and engineering, construction management and 24/7/365 site services for mission-critical facilities, today announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Total Site Solutions ("TSS"), has been selected to provide design and construction management services for the redevelopment of a 399,000 square foot mission-critical facility located in Atlanta, GA. This 21-story property, located on Marietta Street in Central Atlanta, is owned by Westplan Investors, a firm with over $1.5 billion of business and residential investment properties in major cities throughout the southern United States, including Atlanta, Raleigh, NC, Jacksonville and Tampa, FL, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio, TX and Phoenix, AZ. The Company has been awarded the first two phases of this multi-phase project, with design work beginning in July 2011.
The Marietta Street property is currently occupied by 180,000 square feet of technology-based tenants, several collocation and managed hosting firms, and is home to 16 telecommunications carriers. The redevelopment will convert the remaining interior area, covering over 200,000 square feet, to a dedicated carrier hotel offering wholesale and retail-level collocation space at both medium and high-density.
Rece Morgan, Senior Vice President of Westplan noted, "We are extremely pleased to start this exciting redevelopment project and to be working with Total Site Solutions, a firm with unparalleled tenure and experience in the design and construction of mission-critical facilities. The first phase of our project redevelopment will deliver two new Meet-Me-Rooms and fiber optic backbones to provide carrier-to-carrier and carrier-to-tenant traffic. Phase two will deliver 20 megawatts of additional electrical capacity, along with central generator and cooling plants. Rack-ready space will be offered to tenants with options from 100 to 200 watts per square foot. Powered shell space will also be offered for customers who prefer to design and construct their own space."
Jerry Gallagher, Total Site Solutions CEO and President added, "Our selection for this project is a perfect example of our ability to provide end-to-end solutions and help simplify a client's delivery model, saving both time and financial resources. Working with Westplan during the critical early stages of project development, we are providing programming, preliminary design, and budgeting services. We will also provide design/build services for the first two phases of the project, including comprehensive engineering and construction management expertise to deliver a state-of-the-art, efficient, and robust facility that we believe will position Westplan and 55 Marietta at the forefront of Atlanta's mission-critical marketplace."
In addition to Total Site Solutions, Westplan has selected the experienced Atlanta based team of Ken Baudry and Mike Warren, from Grubb and Ellis' National Data Center Practice Group to assist in the redevelopment and leasing effort.
