The Forty Years, Forty Words -- Guizhou Keywords to The World report was produced based on data that has been collected concerning the economic development of Guizhou during the 40 years since the Chinese economic reform was launched and complemented by in-depth interviews with experts who are knowledgeable about the growth that took place in the province during the period, with the aim of capturing the most recent impressions that Guizhou has made on the world in terms of 40 descriptive keywords across 10 categories that are representative of the province.

According to the report, Guizhou's GDP grew by a factor of 290.45 from 1978 to 2017, 30 percent higher than the country's growth overall. Over the past five years, 6.708 million residents in the province's rural areas have been pulled out of poverty.
