Forum Phi Architects Give Back to Challenge Aspen
ASPEN, Colo., Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Forum Phi is partnering with Challenge Aspen in remodeling their corporate offices located in Snowmass Village, CO. As stated in their mission statement, "Challenge Aspen is dedicated to impacting lives by presenting meaningful recreational, educational and cultural experiences to individuals faced with cognitive or physical challenges while encouraging family and friends to participate in those experiences." Forum Phi is passionate about helping individuals faced with life-altering disabilities, therefore the architectural services will be offered to the nonprofit pro-bono.
The space originated as a General Store and was later conformed into office space. The flow is poor as the primary and secondary spaces are not connected. Employees must leave the offices to access the equipment needed. In addition, the back of the offices have no windows creating a dark and dreary work environment. Bringing natural light and uplifting the energy of the space is the key goal of the project and already the team has found a way to create four additional offices out of the same space. The new offices will are designed for wheelchair accessibility and fully meet ADA standards. As explained by partner Christopher May, "This project is a chance to allow the Challenge Aspen program to grow and improve their space without increasing their budget. It's an opportunity to show that design is more important than square footage to the usability and comfort of a space." Renderings are available upon request.
While the architects will be providing services at no cost, construction costs will exist for the remodel. Forum Phi is partnering with Aspen Magazine and Jimmy's Restaurant to host a benefit to raise financing for the construction. The event will be a festive community gathering at Jimmy's on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 5-7:30pm.
