Four Winds Casino Resort Identifies and Stops Payment Card Incident
NEW BUFFALO, Mich., Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Four Winds Casino Resort values the relationship it has with its guests and understands the importance of protecting payment card information. On October 2, 2015, Four Winds received a report that a bank that issues payment cards detected a pattern of unauthorized charges on cards after those cards were used at Four Winds. Four Winds immediately launched an investigation, worked with law enforcement and engaged a leading cybersecurity firm to examine its payment card network.
The investigation found evidence of a criminal attack on its payment card network that involved the installation of a program that searched for payment card data as it was being routed through its network. The program specifically searched for data found in the magnetic stripe of payment cards, which includes the cardholder name, card number, expiration date and internal verification code. No other customer information was involved. It is possible that any card that was used in person at the Four Winds casino properties in New Buffalo, Hartford or Dowagiac, or the Bent Tree Market service station on the Dowagiac property, between October 2014 and October 21, 2015, could have been copied by the program. We do not have sufficient information to identify the name and address of individuals who swiped their payment card at our properties during this time frame.
Four Winds has implemented enhanced security measures to prevent similar attacks. In addition to providing information to law enforcement, Four Winds is also working closely with payment card companies to identify potentially affected cards so that the banks that issued those cards can be made aware and initiate heightened monitoring of those cards.
We recommend that consumers remain vigilant to the possibility of fraud by reviewing their payment card statements for any unauthorized activity. Consumers should immediately report any unauthorized charges to the bank that issued their card because the major payment card companies typically do not hold consumers responsible for fraudulent charges that are reported in a timely manner. Consumers should also review the additional information on our website – http://fourwindscasino.com/press/payment-card.php. – on ways to protect themselves.
Four Winds regrets any inconvenience or concern this may cause. If consumers have any questions, please call 877-835-0768, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. EST.
