New capabilities help advisors model client tax decisions, uncover planning opportunities and optimize strategies to better serve clients
NEW YORK, Sept. 2, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- FP Alpha, an AI-powered advanced financial planning platform, today announced significant enhancements to its Tax Projector tool designed to make sophisticated, forward-looking tax planning easier and more accessible for financial advisors.
The enhancements include Tax Projector Scenario Insights, which enables advisors to generate FP Alpha's NextGen Tax Insights based on future client scenarios rather than relying solely on historical tax returns, and the Tax Projector Agent, an AI-powered experience that allows advisors to build and optimize tax scenarios using natural-language prompts.
Together, the capabilities expand FP Alpha's ability to help advisors move beyond identifying tax-planning opportunities to more easily modeling potential decisions, understanding their implications and identifying actionable strategies for clients.
"Tax planning can create tremendous value for clients, but historically it has required advisors to know both the strategy they want to explore and exactly how to model it," said Andrew Altfest, CFP®, MBA, Founder and CEO of FP Alpha and President of Altfest Personal Wealth Management. "We're breaking down those barriers. Our goal is to give advisors an intelligent partner that can help them explore the 'what ifs,' uncover opportunities they may not have thought to look for and turn those insights into meaningful conversations and actions with clients."
Altfest brings a distinctive perspective to the development of FP Alpha as both a practicing financial advisor and a wealth technology creator. His firsthand experience serving clients and running an RIA helped inspire the creation of FP Alpha and continues to inform the company's product strategy. Altfest also served on CFP Board's AI Working Group, which brought together leaders from financial planning, technology and academia to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the profession and the evolving relationship between AI and human advisor expertise.
Turning Tax Planning from Backward-Looking to Forward-Looking
With Tax Projector Scenario Insights, advisors can run FP Alpha's NextGen Tax Insights directly against a saved Tax Projector scenario.
Instead of analyzing only what occurred on a client's most recently filed tax return, advisors can model a potential change, such as a Roth conversion, sale of appreciated assets, gain/loss harvesting strategy or significant income shift, and immediately generate insights based on that specific scenario.
FP Alpha can then proactively surface important considerations, such as remaining tax-bracket capacity or additional taxes that could be triggered by a proposed decision.
The result is a fundamentally different tax-planning conversation: rather than simply reviewing what happened last year, advisors can help clients understand what could happen next and what they may want to do about it.
Scenario-based insights have been among the most requested Tax Projector capabilities from FP Alpha users over the past four years.
"The feedback we're hearing from advisors is that the Next Gen Scenario Insights is helping them turn tax planning into a much more dynamic client conversation," said Rachel Schwab, Head of Product, at FP Alpha. "Advisors are using it to show clients the potential impact of decisions before they make them, rather than simply explaining the tax consequences afterward. We're also hearing that advisors are bringing this type of analysis into prospect conversations because it gives them a tangible way to demonstrate the depth of planning and value they can provide."
Advisors Can Now Build Scenarios by Simply Asking
The Tax Projector Agent further simplifies the process by allowing advisors to describe the situation they want to analyze in natural language.
Rather than requiring advisors to know which fields to complete or exactly how to construct a scenario within the Tax Projector, they can simply tell the Agent what they want to explore.
The Agent then guides the advisor through any additional information needed, provides context around relevant tax rules and limits, confirms the assumptions and automatically builds the scenario.
For example, an advisor could ask FP Alpha to analyze a potential Roth conversion, the sale of a highly appreciated asset or another significant financial decision. The Agent helps translate that advisor-client question into a tax-planning scenario that can be modeled and evaluated.
The capability is designed to make sophisticated tax analysis more accessible to advisors who may not consider themselves tax specialists or expert users of tax-planning software.
"Advisors shouldn't have to know every tax rule or every field within a piece of software to recognize that there may be an important planning opportunity worth exploring," Altfest said. "AI gives us the ability to change that experience. Instead of asking advisors to learn the technology, we can increasingly make the technology understand what the advisor is trying to accomplish."
From Finding an Opportunity to Optimizing It
The Tax Projector Agent also includes an Optimize capability designed to help advisors take the next step from identifying an opportunity to evaluating potential strategies.
The Optimize feature analyzes key insights generated by a scenario and can suggest specific dollar amounts associated with different strategies, along with estimated tax savings. Advisors remain in control and can review, approve or adjust the suggested amounts based on the client's broader circumstances and financial plan.
The capability addresses another challenge advisors have shared with FP Alpha: translating a tax-planning insight into the specific inputs necessary to model an actionable strategy.
By connecting insights, scenario modeling and optimization within a more intuitive workflow, FP Alpha is reducing both the technical expertise and manual work traditionally associated with advanced tax analysis.
Helping Advisors Demonstrate More Value
The enhancements also reflect FP Alpha's broader vision for artificial intelligence in wealth management: using AI not to replace the advisor, but to expand what advisors are able to deliver.
By making sophisticated tax modeling easier to perform, FP Alpha enables advisors to bring advanced planning into more client relationships, explore opportunities in real time and more clearly demonstrate the value of advice to both existing clients and prospects.
That philosophy is informed by Altfest's position on both sides of the advisor-technology equation, as the leader of an independent wealth management firm and the founder of a wealth technology company created to solve challenges he experienced firsthand as an advisor.
"As AI becomes more capable, the opportunity isn't simply to automate what advisors already do," Altfest said. "It is to help advisors do things that previously may have been too complex, too time-consuming or too specialized to deliver consistently across their client base. That is where we believe AI can have a profound impact on financial advice."
