Franchise Investment Key to Diversification as Stocks Stop Being Sure Thing

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Aug. 15, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In a recent CNBC report, Bill Gross, the managing director of Pimco, went on the record as saying that he believes stocks are dead. One franchise consultant believes he has a viable alternative for executives who are looking for ways to diversify their portfolios. "Gross couldn't be more correct," says Dennis Stuver, who represents franchise concepts that dovetail well with portfolio diversification. "He's not the only one. Many investors are running scared. People who thought their retirements were secure aren't so sure anymore. I'm confident that executives are realizing the value of investing in franchises."
Stuver is quick to note that there is a certain technique required to successfully invest in a franchise. In order to be effective to create growth in their portfolios, executives should consider becoming master franchisees, which means that they own and develop regions that include several independent franchises. "I am not suggesting that a person who wants to diversify his portfolio should buy a single franchise location," says Stuver. "What I do is help executives develop franchise investments that enhance and strengthen their portfolios. In the current climate, I have no doubt at all that this is going to be what ends up saving a lot of people."
As Bill Gross states in the CNBC report, the "cult of equity," which was made famous by Wharton professor Jeremy Siegel, is fading into obscurity. The report notes that annual average returns of 6.6 percent are quickly becoming things of the past. According to Stuver, executives can ease into franchise investing on a part-time or semi-absentee basis. "This investment may be made while remaining at your current job," he says. "The IRS will in many cases allow you to use money in investment accounts to start businesses, and you don't have to deal with early withdrawal fees or tax penalties."
