The basketball game, which will take place at the district's Ingomar Middle School, is part of a long-term partnership between Franklin Elementary and KEF to build and stock a new library at the Eluai Primary School and Noonkodin Secondary School in the village of Eluai outside of Monduli in Tanzania. KEF is a nonprofit volunteer organization with a mission to provide African children the same education opportunities as children in developed countries.
"This is truly kids helping kids as our students raise money throughout the year through spirit days and special projects like bracelet sales to help in this effort," said Jeff Anderchak, Principal at Franklin Elementary. "We believe that working with KEF helps to open students' minds to realities of the world around them and to see that kids in other parts of the world live very different lives."
Franklin Elementary is well on its way to a goal of $10,000 in this effort, with more than $3,000 already raised. Ground was recently broken for the library project and work will continue as funding is in place.
"We are thrilled to partner with Franklin Elementary School," said Todd Grossman, founder of KEF. "Jeff Anderchak, the teachers and staff and students of the school have been extremely enthusiastic and creative in their fundraising ideas. The students are interested to learn more about their counterparts in Tanzania and we are looking forward to launching a pen pal program between the schools as work continues on the library project."
