BEIJING, April 14 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- The Bora sports car has not only an upgraded power system, but the appearance is different from the old models. The bumper has been slightly changed; the lower edge of the intake grille is now studded with chrome, while the original narrow support rod has been turned into a black porous guard. In fact, the front face of new Bora imitates the style of the golf model.
The new Bora's high-end models will be equipped with skylights. In addition, the window and rear trunk are both decorated by a light bar, while front fog lamps and other external attachments will be abolished in the low-end models.
To cope with strong 1.4T engine and to provide better grip, high-end model tires will be upgraded to 205/55R16, with pieces of sports style alloy wheels, while the low-end version, in order to reduce costs, will remain with the old the 195/65R15 tires. The new Bora's overall sporty shape remains unchanged, except that the "BORA TSI" will add a "Sport" tail logo to emphasize its power configuration and promote its campaign.
The new Bora sporty model has dimensions of 4540 x 1775 x 1467 mm. The chassis has been completely adopted from the old model, and the biggest bright spot is that it is equipped with a new power system. The CFB-type 1.4T turbo engine is the latest in the EA111 series. Its structure and tuning are the same as the golf 6 1.4T engine.
While the 1.4T engine's displacement is smaller, it still has excellent dynamic performance. The 1750 can put out a maximum torque of 220 Nm, much higher than the 1.6-liter and 2.0-liter BWH CEN, two ancient 8-valve engines. The new Bora sporty model features automatic transmission with a new 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automated manual gearbox. The weight has only been increased by 20 kg, and fuel consumption performance is extremely good.
Overall, the new Bora's price is only 10,000 yuan lower than the Golf 6. The price of the Bora 1.4T is a little higher than the new Golf 6, and its straight-line acceleration is very good, but the compound semi-independent torsion beam rear suspension performance was flat, which puts it behind the golf 6 four-link independent suspension. Turning control performance and rear-seat comfort are simply not in the same category. However, the new Bora also has its own advantages, including a longer wheelbase, relatively large rear space and a more traditional sedan shape. Because of this it may meet the preferences of specific consumer groups and occupy a certain market share.
