Free service from tech startup Cladwell provides custom checklist for a man's wardrobe, then says, "Stop shopping."
CINCINNATI, Sept. 4, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Online tech/fashion startup Cladwell announced today its latest innovation, Wardrobe—a free service that provides custom recommendations for men's clothing, aimed to help men build a sustainable, quality wardrobe, and then stop shopping.
"At Cladwell, we've been helping men look good and feel awesome," said Blake Smith, co-founder. "With our latest innovation, Wardrobe, we want to give men a personal roadmap to dress better, but with a finish line. Unlike other sites that provide personal stylists, we want to give them the OK to stop shopping once they have built their wardrobe, and just relax and enjoy their lives."
Launched in 2013, Cladwell provides free, individualized style advice to help men dress better, using personal stylists along with computer algorithms that account for lifestyle, budget, style preferences, coloring and body type. Recommendations are provided via external links including big retailers like Macy's and specialty brands like Shinola, where customers purchase the clothes directly.
The most unique aspect of its Wardrobe service is that Cladwell provides men with a finite checklist of clothing to own, which can include clothing already in their closets. It then prioritizes the remaining clothing needs until the Wardrobe finish line is achieved.
"It's not about more clothes, it's about the right clothes," explained Chris Merchich, co-founder and head of fashion. This evolution of the Cladwell concept, from a free style service providing individual clothing recommendations to one that provides a comprehensive wardrobe checklist, is in response to the problems of fast fashion and overconsumption of clothing.
Cladwell leaders were inspired by the book Overdressed: The Schockingly High Cost of Fast Fashion by Elizabeth L. Cline, which explains that the issues of over consumption and disposable fashion can lead to ecologically unsustainable business practices, as well as to poor treatment of garment workers and poor garment quality.
"Focusing on quality over quantity in fashion can benefit the environment and your wallet, as higher quality apparel can be less expensive per wearing," Smith added.
Cladwell believes its new Wardrobe feature, with a true stopping point for clothes shopping, is the first of its kind among among all online fashion websites and style services.
