Freelancer.com Chief Executive Matt Barrie Wins Alumni of the Year Award
SYDNEY, Nov. 4, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Freelancer.com announced today that Chief Executive Matt Barrie won Alumni of the Year from the faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the University of Sydney.
The awards are intended to recognise alumni of the Faculty of Engineering & IT who have shown exceptional dedication, creativity or leadership in their field of professional endeavour which may include outstanding contributions to the community. Matt Barrie was selected from over 10,000 alumni.
He joins distinguished previous winners including 2009 winner David Skellern, who was co-founder of Radiata, which demonstrated the world's first IEEE 802.11a chip-set and was acquired by Cisco Systems. David was until recently Chief Executive of National ICT Australia, Australia's Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Centre of Excellence.
"I'm honoured to win this award and join such an extraordinary group of previous winners," said Matt Barrie. "I believe we must do better to encourage more high school students in Australia to enroll in engineering, equip our engineering students with the tools, knowledge, confidence and encouragement to start their own technology companies, attract more funding to the technical departments at universities and build up the technology sector on the ASX as an alternative pathway for financings and exits for Australian technology companies."
