Frei Brothers Reserve® and Bon Appetit Magazine Launch Places Worth Preserving Inspired Plates Edition: a Photo Contest Focused on Preservation

HEALDSBURG, Calif., May 27, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Frei Brothers Reserve has partnered with Bon Appetit magazine to promote Places Worth Preserving Inspired Plates Edition, a photo contest that honors conservation and special places around the country. The photo contest launched May 23 and offers weekly prize packs, and accumulates with one lucky winner receiving a grand prize trip to wine country that includes a VIP tour of Frei Ranch, the winery's own place worth preserving.  This year the program has a foodie twist: the five finalist photos will inspire sustainable recipes and be featured in the pages of Bon Appetit magazine.

The craft of winemaking is deeply rooted in a sense of place, and conservation is embedded within Frei Brothers Reserve's culture and belief system; as part of the winery's 50/50 Giveback Program, for every acre planted in vines the brand sets aside another acre for land and habitat preservation. Honoring Frei Brothers Reserve's commitment to land and habitat preservation, the mission of Places Worth Preserving is to increase awareness of the importance of conservation and sustainability, both at and beyond Frei Ranch - from favorite backyard picnic spots to soaring redwood groves.

This year, the winery is working with Bon Appetit's executive chef Mary Nolan to introduce a fun twist to the photo contest. The five top scoring finalist photos will not only inspire sustainable recipes developed by Chef Mary Nolan, but will be featured on the pages of Bon Appetit's December issue.

Entering the Places Worth Preserving photo contest is easy:

• Step One: Take a photo of a place that's special, that's worthy of being preserved for generations to come. It can be as magnificent as a national monument, or as intimate as your own backyard.

As part of the photo contest, prize packs will be awarded on a weekly basis and all entries are entered to win the grand prize. Each week Frei Brothers Reserve will randomly award entries with gifts and gadgets that are designed to help us preserve, protect and enjoy places worth preserving. In September, the five finalist submissions will be put up for a fan vote to determine the grand prize winner. That winner and a guest will win a California wine country getaway that includes a private tour and tasting at Frei Ranch in Healdsburg, Calif.
