Fresh Batch of Premium .NYC Websites to Celebrate the City's Domain Anniversary, October 10
NEW YORK, Oct. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- New York's Internet is an ever evolving digital space. Projects and resources are launched on a daily basis making the city a frontrunner among peers in the digital world. Two years have passed since the launch of the city's own domain extension creating a new home for projects based and related to New York. It is increasingly common to see websites and emails that end in .NYC (www.example.nyc) and this trend will continue in the years to come. There are now more than 75,000 domain names registered that end in .NYC and more than 34 websites in the top 1 million domain names according to Alexa led by www.outlier.nyc.

To celebrate the second anniversary of New York's domain extension, the City has decided to release 4,000 premium domain names previously unavailable to the general public. These domains were being reserved because they're considered valuable pieces of digital property. The batch to be released includes domains like www.hotel.nyc, www.food.nyc, www.space.nyc just to name three of the 4,000.
Upon release, these website names can be registered at www.sayhello.nyc, registrar for the .NYC domain extension. According to the company's directors, the 4,000 domains will have a premium price that ranges from $300 to $6,000 for the initial year of registration. After the first year, domains will default back to the standard $30 per year fee. Hundreds of domains are expected to be registered on the 10th of October once they become available.
These digital addresses have become an interesting asset for people involved in the digital world. Some even consider these digital names an investment hoping to sell the registration rights in the future. Amazingly, this investment has played incredibly well for some people in the past. Premium names ending in .COM have traded for millions of dollars. These include www.sex.com, www.fund.com, www.insurance.com, www.privatejets.com, www.vacationrentals.com, reportedly sold for more than 10 million dollars each!
Only New York companies and individuals are eligible to register domains ending in .NYC making this an exclusive and reserved digital space. Projects, blogs and initiatives based and/or centered in New York will probably appear in the next months using these premium domain names. New Yorkers interested in establishing a website should consider registering on October 10 to get a premium piece of New York's digital property.
