Friends Without A Border to Host "Passage to Angkor" at Second Annual Los Angeles Gala

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel to Host; DJ Mia Moretti to Perform

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --  On Tuesday, October 25, Friends Without A Border will hold its second annual Los Angeles gala to benefit the children of Cambodia. The glamorous evening includes one of a kind performances by the Khmer Arts Ensemble, Khmer-influenced hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, silent and live auctions, and an after-party with DJ Mia Moretti at Teddy's. The event will again be held at the Historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel with Devon Aoki, David Chang, Goodwin Gaw, Kenro Izu, and Jason Pomeranc as the evening's high-profile host committee.

The auction features prints of Angkor by Kenro Izu, two prints by Steve Joester, one of Mick Jagger and one of Bob Marley, and the famous Elvis Presley print The Kiss by Alfred Wertheimer. Artist Trinh Mai will be creating May We Be Free, mixed media on canvas, (oil, hand-stitching and joss paper). Each of the pieces will be available for auction during the event.

Friends Without A Border was founded by renowned Japanese photographer Kenro Izu after a trip to Cambodia where he found a nation filled with children in need. When Kenro realized most children in Cambodia were dying of preventable diseases from poor sanitation and a lack of hygiene education, he founded Friends Without A Border.

Friends Without A Border is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization which raises awareness and funds to  support Angkor Hospital for Children, a leading pediatric hospital providing medical care to children in post-genocide Cambodia.  With a population of about 14 million in Cambodia, over one-third are children under the age of 15.  In 1996, 1 out of 6 children died before the age of 5 from preventable illnesses such as diarrhea and upper respiratory infection.  In recent years, the ratio decreased to 1 out of 12.   www.fwab.org

Through Angkor Hospital for Children, Friends Without A Border provides direct medical care and treatment to the children of Cambodia, training for healthcare professionals from throughout the country, and village-based community health programs.  On average, 600 children and their families arrive at AHC daily.  AHC has treated more than 965,000 sick and malnourished kids since it opened in 1999.  Together, FWAB and AHC are rebuilding the devastated healthcare infrastructure of a war-torn and impoverished country.
