From Green to Clean: Innovative Algae Treatment Hits Minnesota Lake at Peak Bloom Season

Lake community hosts launch event for state's largest nanobubble technology treatment
to combat toxic algae

PINE CITY, Minn., July 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- As harmful algal blooms continue to threaten Minnesota's lakes each summer, one community is taking action. The Pokegama Lake Association (PLA), together with local community members and Moleaer, are deploying the state's largest nanobubble technology treatment to date, a chemical-free solution to restore lake health without harsh treatments.

"In the past, our only option was alum treatment. But with over 60% of the phosphorus in Pokegama Lake coming from external loading, alum isn't a long-term solution," said Kathy Nielsen of the Pokegama Lake Association. "We need real solutions, not a band-aid."

The launch event on July 24 in Pine City is an opportunity to see this innovative technology up close during peak bloom season, hear directly from community leaders, and learn how nanobubbles, a clean and sustainable technology, are reshaping the future of lake restoration.

This 1,521-acre recreational hub for swimming, boating, and fishing, Pokegama Lake has long struggled with excess nutrients, poor water quality, and recurring algal blooms. The chemical-free solution uses nanobubbles to naturally restore lake health by accelerating natural recovery processes to improve water quality and reduce algae.
