From PR Exec to Fashion Designer: Local Entrepreneur Wins Best of DC Award, Debuts First Resort Wear Collection
WASHINGTON, Feb. 2, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- DC Magazine has included D.C. boutique brand Good Jeans Company in its yearly "Best of Washington" roundup. Says Good Jeans founder Kate Fralin, "I'm so excited DC Magazine included our eco-chic, heirloom jean jackets in their Best of DC 2011 list. In many ways, my vision of repurposing vintage materials with individually-crafted products reflects some of the challenges of today's economic climate. I believe women are taking stock of what's important, a custom article of clothing that has personal meaning and history is very compelling."

The Good Jeans concept is straightforward. Fralin selects unique vintage scarves- mostly provided by her clients, supplemented by many purchased at boutique and vintage clothing stores- and transforms them into the linings of stylish denim jackets. What to do with that wild Pucci scarf that your great aunt loaned you for the 60s party? Use it to line a modern Lucky Brand white jean jacket hanging in your closet for your next trip to Palm Beach.
Fralin, a former senior public relations executive in Washington, DC, was inspired to launch Good Jeans in Spring 2008 after a closet clean-out made her think about ways to recycle beloved old pieces of clothing. Since its inception, this custom jean jacket company has worked with a roster of clients and stylists, including notable Washingtonian A-listers. For the last three years, Fralin has showcased her jackets at trunk shows on the East coast, been featured at Saks Fifth Avenue at Chevy Chase, and donated dozens of Good Jeans jackets to charity organizations for auction. Good Jeans is also a proud sponsor of the Breast Cancer Care Foundation (BCCF), a local non-profit that facilitates access to breast cancer care and ancillary services for underserved, uninsured women and men.
In addition to their "Best of D.C." accolade, Good Jeans announced today the launch of their 2011 resort wear collection, available now at www.GoodJeansCompany.com. "This year's collection is all about bright colors and classic silhouettes," Fralin noted. "With this collection, I want to inspire women to look in their closets and search for that perfect scarf, gone unworn for years, and pair it with a great looking white jean jacket that will carry her from spring break to summer at the beach."
To assist with the marketing and public relations efforts of the flourishing business, Good Jeans has hired Bethesda-based, EDT Communications Inc. "I'm delighted to bring Elizabeth Thorp and her team on board," Fralin said. "We share a background in corporate communications, a passion for fashion and style, we're both small business entrepreneurs, I'm excited to work together."
