From the Label to the Lab - Fashion Week Inspires 2016's Cosmetic Trends
NEW YORK, May 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Brazilian cosmetics formulator Cosmotec announced today their cosmetic color trends preview for the upcoming season, which they believe will predict the color trends showing up on cosmetic shelves these fall and winter seasons.
"We are pleased to share our Fall and Winter 2016-17 color preview with the rest of our industry, as a great deal of research and insight goes into determining these trends. Our color experts attend Fashion Week all over the world taking note of styles and developments in new fashion, and then link what they see on the runway to consumer data provided by research tools, including Euromonitor and Mintel data systems," explained Tatiana Francine, Market Communications Manager of Cosmotec. "Our color trends serve cosmetic companies with valuable information that informs their creative process for the year ahead."
About seven years ago, the Cosmotec team acted on the notion that color cosmetics and fashion walk very closely together, and began proposing color-trend orientation to their customers based upon what they derived from that year's fashion. Since then, their methodology has improved to more closely align with what the world of fashion and beauty can expect in the seasons ahead.
The nine colors released in this preview include names like Bubblegum (Pantone 17-1928 TPX), Sharkskin (Pantone 17-3914 TCX) and Grasshopper (Pantone 18-0332 TPX). This color wheel depicts 9 colors for the season that are divided into 3 higher level concepts designed to point pathways for customers, enabling them to find other matching shades by learning how to approach the season. This year's concepts are "Still", "Style" and "Stain," and combine muted earth tones juxtaposed to rich, hearty pigments.
Cosmotec's color experts will spend the next several months showcasing their color concepts to clients by producing a pigment tower in the lab; using cosmetic grade pigments and creating a storyboard that illustrates the colors and concepts through examples of daily life.
"Cosmotec does an excellent job providing this value-added service to their customers so they can better align their products with the consumer trends of the future," said Harumasa Morizumi, Vice President and Unit Head of Life Sciences at Sumitomo Corporation of Americas, Cosmotec's parent company. "Enabling our business partners to achieve greater success is always top of mind for the Cosmotec team."
