OLATHE, Kan., June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Frozen & Dairy Buyer magazine is to receive a national award in the Annual Awards Competition of the American Society of Business Press Editors (ASBPE). As a finalist, the magazine will win a gold, silver or bronze award at ceremonies later this year.
The highly successful magazine, launched last August by two entrepreneurs using credit cards and home equity loans, is a winner in the new publications category, honoring start-ups with revenue under $2 million annually.
"ASBPE's competition recognizes the hard work and commitment of business and professional magazine, newsletter and Web editors and designers," according to a letter the organization sent to Frozen & Dairy Buyer announcing the award.
"Such an award is a most prestigious acknowledgement that your work has met high standards of excellence and is at the top of your profession. The Society's contest is extremely competitive, and one of the largest U.S. business publication competitions. Our judges are experienced business editors, designers, consultants and academicians. You and your staff should be extremely proud."
Named on the plaque to be presented to Frozen & Dairy Buyer will be: Warren Thayer, editor and managing partner; Paul Chapa, sales director and managing partner; Randy Szarzynski, art director; Dan Raftery, contributing editor; and Morgan Little, contributing editor.
In addition to the print magazine, the company has a Web site, http://www.fdbuyer.com, which provides access to an online edition. The publication's mission is to help readers sell more products in the categories they manage, and to do so more profitably. Readers are the executives in charge of buying and merchandising frozen and dairy foods in supermarkets, supercenters, club stores and other venues where these products are sold.
"I am so delighted that Frozen & Dairy Buyer has been recognized by ASBPE," says Paul Chapa, sales director and managing partner. "Warren and I surrounded ourselves with a group people that had an honest and sincere passion for our industry -- our readers and our advertisers. Our leap of faith in starting this magazine was based on creating a magazine of integrity. In truth, our readers and our entire industry are our editorial advisory board. Warren and I are simply the caretakers of this magazine."
"Launching this magazine has been a community effort," according to Warren Thayer, editorial director and managing partner. "I've made many friends in the industry over the past 25 years, and they've all come through to help us. I'm grateful, and just so darn happy about it. I wish more people would take the leap and go for the dream. I spent too many years afraid to leave the corporate fold. Print journalism isn't dead. Go for it!"
