FTI Consulting Expands Its Asia Practice With Appointment of Dr. Mark Smith

NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- FTI Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: FCN), the global business advisory firm dedicated to helping organizations protect and enhance their enterprise value, today announced that Dr. Mark Smith has joined the firm's global real estate advisory practice at FTI Schonbraun McCann Group (SMG), as a Senior Managing Director to lead the firm's commitment to the region.  

FTI is expanding its footprint in Shanghai to service the rapidly growing area of mainland China and other areas of the Asia Pacific region.  Dr. Smith will focus on providing strategic counsel to clients with significant operating or investment capital in complex real estate assets.  Dr. Smith brings more than 25 years of experience advising Fortune 500 companies on all sides of a real estate transaction, including  property owners, investors, large construction companies, and government agencies. He specializes in business risks, capital funding, and program advisory for multinational clients with critical needs in real estate, construction and infrastructure assets.

Prior to joining FTI, Dr. Smith led the development and growth of Ernst & Young's global real estate and construction practice where he assisted major corporations and their outside counsel by providing project risk avoidance and economic damage analyses related to all aspects of complex real estate and construction disputes. Dr. Smith also helped launch the firm's Real Estate Advisory Services practice for mainland China and the Asia region.

A certified public accountant and distinguished Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, Dr. Smith earned a Ph.D. in civil engineering from Oklahoma State University, and has delivered more than 100 papers and presentations for national publications and conferences in his industry.  Most recently Dr. Smith has been a featured speaker at numerous conferences in China on Infrastructure investment in Asia.
