Fujitsu ETERNUS Hybrid System Outshines many Enterprise Arrays and Purpose-built All-flash Alternatives, According to New SPC-1 Benchmarks
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 3, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu today announced that its midrange FUJITSU Storage ETERNUS® DX600 S3 scalable, unified disk storage systems are the right choice for data-intensive applications, such as demanding database systems, real-time analytics and big data environments, online transaction scenarios with a high number of users and all types of Internet applications. As confirmed by the recently published SPC-1 Benchmark from the Storage Performance Council (SPC)1, the latest generation of Fujitsu ETERNUS® hybrid dual controller midrange systems, which are focused on optimizing business-centric storage, have again achieved best-in-class benchmark performance (IOPS), price-performance ($/IOPS), and sub-millisecond response times2.
The extended system lifetime and reduced migration costs of the ETERNUS® DX600 S3 result from delivering large headroom in areas where exponential data growth can be anticipated. IOPS performance directly influences the number of virtual machines that can be hosted on a storage system, meaning ETERNUS® DX can constantly increase virtual machine density and therefore, an ideal storage consolidation platform for VMware or Hyper-V usage.
Achieving this benchmark also demonstrates that the hybrid system drives down latency by efficiently running a large number of solid-state drives (SSDs) without creating internal bottlenecks. In addition, many customers no longer need to invest in expensive special-purpose all-flash arrays, as this system achieves a response time of only 0.61 milliseconds under full load and it can achieve many high-performance data application objectives.
The test results are published on the SPC website as of July 25, 2014, and will be officially accepted after the 60-day peer review period. See referenced documents for complete benchmark results (Submission Identifier A00146) http://www.storageperformance.org/results/benchmark_results_spc1_active#a00146.
Pricing and availability
The full range of ETERNUS® DX S3 systems and ETERNUS® SF16 management software are globally available, sold directly and via Fujitsu Channel Partners. Prices vary depending on the configuration. All ETERNUS® DX S3 systems are easy to manage and share the same flexible family architecture, providing investment protection and enabling extensive scalability through seamlessly upgrading to a bigger model within the range. In addition, the latest release of ETERNUS® SF software introduces new system management functionality for customers deploying the previous generation of Fujitsu ETERNUS® DX systems.
Notes to editors
1. The Storage Performance Council (SPC) is a vendor-neutral standards body focused on the storage industry. It created the first industry-standard performance benchmark targeted at the needs and concerns of the storage industry. SPC benchmarks provide a rigorous, audited and reliable measure of performance. Further information is available online at http://www.storageperformance.org
- Fujitsu subscribes to SPC Benchmark testing as a valid and independent way for customers to judge performance results: http://www.storageperformance.org/specs
- The SPC Benchmark 1 test program is designed to simulate business-critical applications processing many complex transactions. Pseudo-operational workloads of Online Transactions (OLTP), database operations and mail systems are recreated to measure random access read/write performance.
2. With the latest SPC Benchmark 1 from SPC, Fujitsu ETERNUS® DX600 S3 has beaten all midrange hybrid dual controller arrays and also some multi-controller enterprise class storage systems in terms of IOPS, $/IOPS and response time.
- With a response time of 0.61 milliseconds at 100 percent load, the ETERNUS® DX600 S3 achieved the highest scores ever in the history of the SPC-1 benchmark.
- As it is able to run more than 320,000 SPC-1 IOPS, Fujitsu's midrange system plays in the same league as higher-priced enterprise systems, with a similar level of performance to many all-flash arrays.
- The dual-controller ETERNUS® DX600 S3 offers an outstanding price performance level of US $1.54 / SPC-1 IOPS.
