Fujitsu Semiconductor Named Finalist in Prestigious 2010 EDN Innovation Awards Competition for Human-Machine Interface Technology
SUNNYVALE, Calif., Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Semiconductor America, Inc. (FSA), a leading designer and developer of innovative semiconductor products and solutions, today announced it is a finalist in EDN's 21st annual Innovation Awards (http://innovation.edn.com/) in the Human-Machine Interface Technology category. The Fujitsu 360-degree Wrap-Around Video Imaging Technology was selected as a finalist for its ability to provide a complete, three-dimensional, 360-degree view of a vehicle's surroundings, significantly boosting driver visibility and safety (http://www.fujitsu.com/us/news/pr/fma_20101019-02.html).
The Fujitsu 360-degree Wrap-Around Video Imaging Technology uses advanced 3D algorithms to synthesize images from four cameras to recreate a seamless, 3D omnidirectional view of a vehicle's surroundings. The Fujitsu technology is unique in its ability to offer a dynamically definable perspective or "free eye point." With this sophisticated technology, system designers can select the optimal perspective to give the driver the best view for any given driving situation. It is even possible to present a virtual "third person" perspective of the vehicle from multiple angles. The Fujitsu technology eliminates blind spots and provides visual assistance when the driver is backing up, turning corners or merging.
"Since its introduction to the U.S. market at Convergence 2010 last October, we have had significant interest in our 360-degree Wrap-Around Video Imaging Technology, an innovative breakthrough that provides drivers with an unprecedented, dynamically definable view around their vehicles," said Akio Nezu, senior manager of marketing, Fujitsu Semiconductor America. "The technology is already in commercial use in Japan and we are excited about its prospects throughout the global automotive industry. Fujitsu is honored EDN Magazine selected our imaging solution for its 2010 Innovation Awards."
The Human-Machine Interface Category covers innovative products designed to simplify and extend users' interaction with sophisticated electronic systems.
Over its lifetime of more than 50 years, EDN has witnessed many distinguished achievements. In 1990, EDN embarked on a special mission to honor the most innovative technological advancements—and the designers who invent them. The EDN Innovation Awards program is now in its 21st year and proudly continues its tradition of recognizing rich talent in our industry in several categories.
