FurnishAid Announces Hurricane Irma Relief Program
Non-profit FurnishAid requests industry support for home furnishings product donations to benefit victims of Hurricane Irma in Florida.
GREENSBORO, N.C., Oct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on the success of its industry-wide relief programs benefitting victims of Hurricane Harvey and Louisiana's 2016 flood, FurnishAid is initiating a program to assist Florida victims of Hurricane Irma. The non-profit organization is seeking donations of basic bedroom, dining room, living room, and office furniture. Caracole will coordinate the pickup and transportation of donated furniture and goods to the impacted regions and is once again working with Volunteers of America to coordinate local facilities, staffing, and distribution. To make a product donation, volunteer or get involved, visit FurnishAid.com.
"The support we've received within our industry for these disaster relief programs is nothing short of remarkable," says Triche Leander, Caracole Chief Operations Officer. "We are seeing great generosity demonstrated by all segments of home furnishings. From freight carriers to manufacturers and retailers, the spirit of giving has taken hold and is truly inspiring. We're now building on this success and initiating a program to help the victims of Hurricane Irma."
The Hurricane Irma Relief Program will focus on helping flood victims in the areas of Key West, Naples and Jacksonville. Applications to receive furniture, vetting of the applicants, and local distribution are all handled by Volunteers of America. The organization requires valid FEMA numbers and verifies all applicants are legitimate prior to selecting recipients. Volunteers of America also provides tax donation receipts for all goods and services donated.
FurnishAid is currently operating a Hurricane Harvey Relief Program to benefit victims in the Houston area. An additional initiative to support victims in Puerto Rico is also in development. Visit FurnishAid.com for more information.
Created by furniture resource, Caracole, in 2016, the non-profit organization FurnishAid was established in response to the devastating flood that hit southern Louisiana last fall. The largest flood in 1,000 years, it destroyed an estimated 200,000 homes and 10,000 businesses—the majority of which did not have flood insurance. Thanks to generous industry participation, the initiative helped 1,052 flood victims with over $1.5 million in donated goods and services. No one was charged for any goods they received, and 100 percent of the proceeds went to flood victims.
