NEW YORK, March 4, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Financial Women's Association (FWA) of New York is celebrating its 60th Anniversary this year with special events, mentoring opportunities and community outreach planned throughout the year.
Several key events will take place in March, in honor of Women's History Month. The FWA is proud to sponsor two free Saturdays at the Museum of American Finance. On March 5 and 12, all visitors can enjoy free admission to take in exhibits that cover topics ranging from the life of Alexander Hamilton, our first Secretary of the Treasury, to the impact gold has on multiple aspects of our lives. In keeping with Women's History Month, many visitors may want to take in the Entrepreneurs exhibits, which includes a profile of the late Muriel "Mickey" Seibert, the first woman to hold a seat on the New York Stock Exchange and who was also an FWA member and supporter, as well an FWA Woman of the Year.
"The Museum of American Finance offers FWA members, their guests, and the broader community a wonderful place to visit, as it brings the financial world to life," said Kimberly Weinrick, a past president of FWA and a member of the museum's Advisory Council. "The FWA is delighted to celebrate the great strides made by American finance and the increasingly prominent role of women on Wall Street, while recognizing that there is still more to achieve."On International Women's Day, March 8, the FWA will also partner with the Museum of American Finance to offer FWA mentees and mentors a course on the financial markets, followed by docent-led tours of the museum. "I feel privileged to host this exciting event, which I know will be a worthwhile experience for our mentees and our mentors alike, and it is a terrific way to celebrate International Women's Day on Wall Street," said Ria Davis, FWA President-Elect 2015-2017. "The FWA has a robust mentoring program that has reached more than 6,000 young professionals and students over the years. That is a remarkable accomplishment that could be realized only through the support of partner firms, and, especially our talented Mentees and Mentors." Recognizing the FWA's 60th Anniversary, these Museum events are sponsored by OppenheimerFunds.
In March, the FWA will also host its International Conference in Singapore. The FWA Delegation has visited more than 25 countries in its efforts to strengthen partnerships between talented individuals and prestigious institutions and government agencies around the world.
Additional events include the 60th Anniversary Gala Women of the Year Awards, which will be held on April 12, at the Grand Hyatt, New York. "I'm proud that every year the FWA recognizes the next generation of inspiring leaders and now its Pacesetters for our industry, while also paying tribute to our dedicated Members and remarkable President's Circle firms and advisors," said Katrin Dambrot, FWA President 2015-2017. "The gala's showstoppers will be to recognize our achievements of the past 60 years and to preview the future through the inspiring stories of our amazingly talented high school and college student mentees. Their inspiring stories highlight the value of connecting with and empowering girls and young women to strive and lead. They bring so much hope, talent and diversity to our workforce."
