GarrettCom to Participate in Lemnos Interoperability Demo at DistribuTECH 2010
Security Interoperability for the Utility Industry Will Be Critical for Smart Grid Implementation, Says GarrettCom's Madren
TAMPA, Fla., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- GarrettCom®, Inc. will participate in the Lemnos Project's interoperability demonstration in the Department of Energy's National SCADA Test Bed booth at DistribuTECH 2010 here this week. Expo attendees will be able to view multiple vendors interoperating using a new security framework for the power industry. The Lemnos framework is appropriate for securing the transmission and distribution sections of the Smart Grid, and supports the Roadmap to Secure Control Systems in the Energy Sector.
For the demonstration, GarrettCom will supply Magnum™ DX Industrial Routers running the company's new release of the Magnum DX operating system. An upgraded VPN and IPsec engine in the DX operating system enhances GarrettCom's ability to deploy highly interoperable, feature-rich and thoroughly tested security solutions, thus supporting the highest levels of interoperability and security in industrial VPNs. GarrettCom Magnum DX Industrial Routers and Magnum Managed and Unmanaged Switches are used in power utility substations for local networking and secure remote access.
"As energy utilities employ more routable Internet Protocols to manage the flow of information, both interoperability and cyber security are essential. Any devices used to secure the Smart Grid will also need to be interoperable when communicating with other security devices and appliances. We are pleased that GarrettCom is again participating in this important activity," said Brian Smith, Principal Consultant, EnerNex Corporation, and Lemnos Project Manager.
"GarrettCom is a leader in providing Security for the Smart Grid," said Frank Madren, GarrettCom President. "We believe in the Lemnos project and are excited to be participating again in the second Lemnos public demonstration—along with a growing group of control system equipment vendors."
