Gartner Names Catalyst IT Services to Its "Cool Vendor" List
Innovative Use of Big Data Delivers on Promise of Agile
BALTIMORE, April 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Catalyst IT Services today announced that it has earned a "Cool Vendor" designation from Gartner Inc. Catalyst was one of just five services firms named in the 'Cool Vendors in Application Services, 2013' report from the leading information technology research and advisory company.
Catalyst IT Services provides onshore agile application services working with clients onsite or from development centers in Baltimore, Md. and Portland, Ore. The company uses a unique Moneyball-style approach to hire talent and assemble teams. The term "Moneyball" refers to the Oakland A's baseball team's use of rigorous statistical analysis rather than subjective, often inaccurate predictors of success in potential draft picks. Similarly, Catalyst applies big data and mathematical modeling to identify high performers objectively and deploy the right team for each client, rather than rely on subjective views of the relevance of resume items.
"Application services, while mature in some instances, are constantly changing in response to technology and delivery innovations, economic conditions and other external pressures. The continuing uncertain economic environment has increased interest in, and demand for, innovation-driven growth and cost-effective solutions," wrote Helen Huntley, Vice President and co-author of the report, Gartner.
Catalyst's use of big data allows it to increase the productivity and effectiveness of agile development for large enterprises and innovative midsize organizations and technology firms.
"Catalyst provided an agile team that fit with our culture and worked in an environment of real-time collaboration, delivering a solution for about half the cost of its competitors," said Jed Moffitt, Director of IT at Catalyst client King County Library System, the largest library system in the United States. "Catalyst IT Services is a rare disruptor in the application services market."
By using analytics, the company estimates that it is able to exceed the productivity of premium domestic options by 27%-100% and global services options by 200%-450%, while meeting the economic model of global delivery.
"We are honored to be recognized as a Cool Vendor," said Michael Rosenbaum, CEO, Catalyst IT Services. "In a space that has seen little innovation over the past few decades, we are discovering that our unique approach is disrupting the market and helping enterprises realize the potential of agile development and maintenance."
This potential includes improving the alignment of business and technical teams, gaining buy-in from business partners for innovation, and responding to overwhelming economic pressures and excruciatingly rapid change, noted Rosenbaum.
