WASHINGTON, Jan. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former Presidential Candidate Gary Bauer called the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade "a day to reflect on the national tragedy of abortion, which has left us with more than 55 million destroyed babies and nearly as many exploited women."

The president of American Values made the following statement: "For 40 years, we've deprived the most defenseless among us of the rights promised in the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence.

"For many years, we treated another group of people, African slaves, as if they had no rights we were bound to respect. We even had a Supreme Court decision that seemed to give it constitutional legitimacy.

"We now rightly look back in shame at the Dred Scott decision. And I hope someday soon we will look back in the same way at Roe and the carnage that it produced."
