Market Definition
The gas utilities market covers all natural gas consumption, net of distribution or transmission losses, by end-users in the following categories: industrial (including use as a feedstock and autogeneration), commercial and public-sector organization, residential consumer, electric power generation (including combined heat and power but excluding autogeneration and heat plant), and other (including transport, agriculture, centralized heat plant, and other usage). Values are calculated from segment volumes and the average annual price of gas charged to end-users in each segment net of any applicable taxes. In some countries, synthetic gas (also called syngas, coal gas, city gas, etc) or biogas (generated from waste materials) may be used in a similar manner to natural gas, and has therefore been included in the market volume. To take into account the different energy content of such gases, all calculations were carried out in energy units, and then converted to bcf using the conversion factor for natural gas. Market shares were calculated as the total volume of gas sold to external end-users in all segments, divided by the total market volume. To avoid the risk of double-counting, gas volumes that were distributed to end-users on behalf of another retailer under third-party network access agreements are not included. Wholesale, trading, and storage volumes are excluded (except for Russia where both wholesale and retail volumes are included). For companies which operate in both gas and power sectors, any self-supply to their own gas-fired generation plant is excluded. All currency conversions are at constant average annual 2011 exchange rates.TABLE OF CONTENTSEXECUTIVE SUMMARY 2Market value 2Market value forecast 2Market volume 2Market volume forecast 2Category segmentation 2Geography segmentation 2Market share 2Introduction 45What is this report about? 45Who is the target reader? 45How to use this report 45Definitions 45Global Gas Utilities 46Market Overview 46Market Data 47Market Segmentation 49Market outlook 52Five forces analysis 54Gas Utilities in Asia-Pacific 62Market Overview 62Market Data 63Market Segmentation 65Market outlook 68Five forces analysis 70Gas Utilities in Europe 78Market Overview 78Market Data 79Market Segmentation 81Market outlook 84Five forces analysis 86Gas Utilities in France 93Market Overview 93Market Data 94Market Segmentation 96Market outlook 99Five forces analysis 101Macroeconomic indicators 107Gas Utilities in Germany 109Market Overview 109Market Data 110Market Segmentation 112Market outlook 115Five forces analysis 117Macroeconomic indicators 123Gas Utilities in Australia 125Market Overview 125Market Data 126Market Segmentation 128Market outlook 131Five forces analysis 133Macroeconomic indicators 141Gas Utilities in Belgium 143Market Overview 143Market Data 144Market Segmentation 146Market outlook 149Five forces analysis 151Macroeconomic indicators 157Gas Utilities in Brazil 159Market Overview 159Market Data 160Market Segmentation 162Market outlook 165Five forces analysis 167Macroeconomic indicators 173Gas Utilities in Canada 175Market Overview 175Market Data 176Market Segmentation 178Market outlook 181Five forces analysis 183Macroeconomic indicators 190Gas Utilities in China 192Market Overview 192Market Data 193Market Segmentation 195Market outlook 198Five forces analysis 200Macroeconomic indicators 206Gas Utilities in The Czech Republic 208Market Overview 208Market Data 209Market Segmentation 211Market outlook 214Five forces analysis 216Macroeconomic indicators 223Gas Utilities in Denmark 225Market Overview 225Market Data 226Market Segmentation 228Market outlook 231Five forces analysis 233Macroeconomic indicators 239Gas Utilities in Hungary 241Market Overview 241Market Data 242Market Segmentation 244Market outlook 247Five forces analysis 249Macroeconomic indicators 255Gas Utilities in India 257Market Overview 257Market Data 258Market Segmentation 260Market outlook 263Five forces analysis 265Macroeconomic indicators 272Gas Utilities in Italy 274Market Overview 274Market Data 275Market Segmentation 277Market outlook 280Five forces analysis 282Macroeconomic indicators 288Gas Utilities in Japan 290Market Overview 290Market Data 291Market Segmentation 293Market outlook 296Five forces analysis 298Macroeconomic indicators 304Gas Utilities in Mexico 306Market Overview 306Market Data 307Market Segmentation 309Market outlook 312Five forces analysis 314Macroeconomic indicators 321Gas Utilities in The Netherlands 323Market Overview 323Market Data 324Market Segmentation 326Market outlook 329Five forces analysis 331Macroeconomic indicators 337Gas Utilities in Norway 339Market Overview 339Market Data 340Market Segmentation 342Market outlook 345Five forces analysis 347Macroeconomic indicators 354Gas Utilities in Poland 356Market Overview 356Market Data 357Market Segmentation 359Market outlook 362Five forces analysis 364Macroeconomic indicators 370Gas Utilities in Russia 372Market Overview 372Market Data 373Market Segmentation 375Market outlook 378Five forces analysis 380Macroeconomic indicators 387Gas Utilities in Singapore 389Market Overview 389Market Data 390Market Segmentation 392Market outlook 395Five forces analysis 397Macroeconomic indicators 403Gas Utilities in South Africa 405Market Overview 405Market Data 406Market Segmentation 408Market outlook 409Five forces analysis 411Macroeconomic indicators 418Gas Utilities in South Korea 420Market Overview 420Market Data 421Market Segmentation 423Market outlook 426Five forces analysis 428Macroeconomic indicators 434Gas Utilities in Spain 436Market Overview 436Market Data 437Market Segmentation 439Market outlook 442Five forces analysis 444Macroeconomic indicators 450Gas Utilities in Sweden 452Market Overview 452Market Data 453Market Segmentation 455Market outlook 458Five forces analysis 460Macroeconomic indicators 466Gas Utilities in The United Kingdom 468Market Overview 468Market Data 469Market Segmentation 471Market outlook 474Five forces analysis 476Macroeconomic indicators 482Gas Utilities in The United States 484Market Overview 484Market Data 485Market Segmentation 487Market outlook 490Five forces analysis 492Macroeconomic indicators 500Company Profiles 502Leading companies 502Appendix 695Methodology 695
