Florida resident and mother of three, Ruth Ann Peavey was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998, just two years after losing her husband to colon cancer. Although her life was saved by a single mastectomy, losing her breast made her feel incomplete.
"The day my staples were taken out I went and removed my shirt, and for the first time in my life I was physically sick at the sight of myself. I sat on the floor and wept," says Ruth Ann.
Last week, Ruth Ann crossed the finish line on her 14-year road to full recovery when Dr. Antonio Gayoso of St. Petersburg, FL performed a reconstruction surgery restoring her breast. The surgery was covered 100% by Genie through the Granting Wishes campaign.
"The Granting Wishes campaign is all about taking action and creating a positive change in a woman's life," said Keith Mirchandani, CEO, Tristar Products, Inc., makers of the Genie brand. "My Hope Chest is pioneering change for women in need, and we are very proud to be part of such a life-changing effort. We listen very closely to our fans, and we quickly learned that the Genie Bra has been instrumental for cancer patients during recovery and beyond due to its comfort and lack of wires. This spurred our interest in helping cancer survivors even more."
For women like Ruth Ann who have undergone breast cancer treatment, the seamless Genie Bra and Milana Bra serve as comfortable and stylish options that make women look and feel great. It is designed with no underwire or clasps and includes pockets, which allow for the easy use of prosthetics. In particular, the Milana Bra, designed with lace, answers the call for this special community of women who desire more beautiful and flattering bras during their journey to breast cancer recovery.
*Through the Granting Wishes campaign, Genie is donating a portion of sales from a designated pink Genie Bra to fund breast reconstruction surgeries for women on the My Hope Chest waiting list.
