MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 16, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Perthera, Inc., a McLean, Virginia full-service precision medicine company, today announced that George Davis is joining their Board of Directors. Perthera, which was founded in 2012, focuses on precisely helping cancer patients define and understand their tumors to help them and their doctors determine a personalized treatment strategy.
"Over the course of 30+ years in business, I have been asked to join many boards and have been very selective about where I get involved. In the case of Perthera, I have the opportunity for the classic 'two-fer.' It's a very exciting business opportunity where Perthera is positioned to emerge as one of the global leaders in precision medicine, plus its mission and the capabilities it's developing translate into longer, higher quality of lives for cancer patients," said Davis.
Davis brings to Perthera more than three decades of business experience, during which he raised more than $1.5 billion in public offerings. Additionally, he brings the life experience of being a cancer survivor and is personally committed to improving the experiences and outcomes for cancer patients.
"We are especially pleased to have recruited George Davis to our board. It's a rare opportunity to gain the advice and experience of someone who both knows how to build businesses and how to relate to the very intense and personal experience of a cancer patient," said Andrew Mignatti, Perthera president, and CEO.
Currently, Davis serves as the CEO of Gemstone Biotherapeutics, a Baltimore-based research and development company founded in 2013 in conjunction with Johns Hopkins University to develop innovative, highly efficient, evidenced-based wound care solutions. He is also a partner in Gamma 3 Investments, a Baltimore-based investment initiative that helped start Gemstone, and has invested in six additional early stage portfolio companies. He has unique acumen in acquiring, building, and incubating intellectual property, advancing technology companies and creating value.
From 1996 to 2003, Davis was president and vice chairman of Aether Systems, a wireless data company that he helped build from start-up to 1,000 employees and more than $100 million in revenues. He also led the Company's IPO and two follow-on offerings totaling $1.5 billion in capital. Also, he served as CEO and Director of Avatech Solutions, a publicly traded CAD software and engineering support company that he restructured to profitability and merged with Rand Worldwide, more than doubling the size of the business.
