Georgia: Canton Listed Among Most Charming Towns in The Peach State
ATLANTA, Oct. 25, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The city of Canton, county seat of Cherokee County, has been voted as one of the most charming towns in Georgia in a survey conducted by TravelMag.com.
The online travel magazine invited more than 50 travel writers, photographers and selected professionals to name the three towns or small cities in The Peach State, with populations of between 3,000 and 50,000, that they consider the most appealing. All of the votes were then counted to produce the final ten.
Nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Canton is one of Georgia's fastest growing cities owing to a high standard of living combined with a vibrant social and cultural scene. Offering stunning vistas, the city is particularly popular with nature lovers who come to enjoy its numerous Heritage Trails.
Elsewhere on the list are places steeped in American history. From St. Marys' standing as one of the first parts of America to be discovered, to Dahlonega's legacy as the site of the first major gold rush, to Fayetteville's place in literary folklore as the inspiration behind Gone With The Wind, the towns and cities voted for have all helped to shape the country's cultural, social, political and economic landscape.
For sheer natural beauty, many places on the list, such as Cumming and Toccoa, are simply awe-inspiring, overlooked by rugged mountain peaks, pristine lakes and an abundance of lush, fertile forest and vegetation. Places like Senoia, Madison and Washington, meanwhile, represent Georgia's architectural heritage, dotted with original and well-preserved 19th century buildings and landmarks.
As for small town charm, this is encapsulated in the pretty suburb of Duluth, whose downtown area is picture perfect.
