In an ostentatious ceremony held by the Seniors' Union on the 28th June in Berlin, the Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) has agreed to speak to honour the work of Israeli and Palestinian families who promote equalisation and reconciliation. The federal chairman of this CDU organisation, Otto Wulff, will be awarding the Seniors' Union Golden Merit Medal to leading representatives of an of Israeli and Palestinian parents' initiative at the ceremony that is being held in the French Dome church. The Israeli citizen Aharon Hirshenson and the Palestinian Nasra Shehab are being commended for their efforts at the head of the Israeli-Palestinian "Parents Circle" for reconciliation and international understanding. Israeli and Palestinian families, who have lost either a child or another close relative due to the prevailing violence between their nations, have joined forces to create this parents' initiative. The Israeli-Palestinian organisation advocates dialogue, non-violence and tolerance in the Palestinian areas and also in Israel.
