Germany Ambassador Lauds Lanzhou Zhongshan Bridge for Symbol of China's Opening up
LANZHOU, China, Nov. 7, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Germany's ambassador to China Michael Clauss and his wife visited the Lanzhou Zhongshan Bridge during a trip to Gansu Province on November 2, according to the Information Office of Lanzhou Municipality. The Zhongshan Bridge is called the No. 1 bridge along the Yellow River and was constructed by German contractors. It started construction in 1907 with the technical support from the United States and Germany and the participation with over 100 Chinese technicians.
The Zhongshan Bridge is a symbol of China's opening up as well as economic cooperation and friendly exchanges. For more than 100 years, the relations between the two countries have become increasingly close and China is Germany's most important trading partner, Clauss said.
Clauss pointed out that a new bridge is linking the two countries, which is the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
He believed that the Belt and Road Initiative is one great initiative and Germany has been responding positively with strong support.
We hope that the EU and China will actively promote the Belt and Road Initiative and Gansu Province, as the meeting point of the Silk Road, brings together different ethnic groups and will enjoy a better future for development thanks to the initiative, Clauss added.
