Girl Scouts Celebrate Their 100th Anniversary with a Design Contest

CINCINNATI, April 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- In the month of April, Girl Scouts around the world are learning about saving energy.  And, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio are taking it to a whole new level, thanks to a partnership with DefineMyStyle.com! To celebrate Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary Forever Green Take Action Project, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio are designing unique reusable grocery bags, to be entered into a Design Contest.

The Design Contest will accept design submissions from now until April 20 and all Girl Scouts throughout western Ohio are encouraged to enter. Through easy-to-use tools, each Girl Scout is encouraged to create a design that shows what helping to save the earth means to her.  The contest winners will be determined based on the greatest number of votes cast through Facebook "Likes," encouraging the girls to rally their friends and family around their green earth initiatives. 

Open to girls of all ages, Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors, the contest has been met with great enthusiasm and excitement.  "We are excited about this initiative because it offers a creative outlet to the girls, helping them to put their energies to work for social causes, and allowing them to express themselves in a whole new way," says Elizabeth Vessell, Program Services Manager.  Already Vessell has been contacted by other troop leaders in other states, asking how the Design Contest can be made available to their Girl Scouts.  This partnership has been a success for Define My Style as well. "The partnership with the Girl Scouts has been such a joy.  Our goal is to help build confidence in the younger generation, through design. We welcome any opportunities to partner with organizations to help foster this. Voting will be held from April 21-29 and the winner will be announced April 30. Each winning troop member's bag design will be put into production and manufactured, making the designs a tangible reality.  Girl Scouts of Western Ohio will also receive a donation from Define My Style on Earth Day based on the total members who participate.
