'Girls Only' Success in Denver Sets the Stage for National Expansion
Creators, Gehring and Klein, celebrate their run in Denver and look forward to becoming a national sensation.
DENVER, June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- After a successful run of nearly two years, the Denver-based creators of "Girls Only – The Secret Comedy of Women" will take their final bow on June 27, 2010, to focus on their national expansion.
"Girls Only", a comedy show written just for women, debuted at the Avenue Theater in Denver in January, 2008. The rave reviews and sold-out shows quickly interested the executive director at Denver Center Attractions and created a partnership that put "Girls Only" at the Galleria Theater at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. More than 90,000 women have seen the show in the past two years, grossing well over $2 million.
"The responses to 'Girls Only' in Denver have been overwhelmingly positive," said co-creator Linda Klein. "It is clear to us from the growing demand in other cities that it is time to take the show to the national stage."
The praise of "Girls Only" in Denver led the show to the Des Moines, Iowa, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Winnipeg, Canada markets. With shining reviews in each of these cities, Gehring and Klein are now gearing up for a national tour that plans to include cities such as Sacramento and Minneapolis.
"After so many years of producing comedy here in Denver," said Gehring, "it is great to have the opportunity to share laughter with women across the nation."
"Girls Only" was created by Klein and Gehring when they discovered their teenage diaries and shared them with each other. After spending an afternoon reading stories and doubling over with laughter, both comedians realized they had the material for the making of a comedy that would appeal to women of all ages.
The show draws on these entries and other adventures of womanhood from teenage crushes, "the talk" during puberty, to pantyhose and breast feeding, maxi pads and menopause. "Girls Only" is a show that is highly universal, made incredibly personal. It celebrates the inner workings of women with honesty and humor.
