Go Green Auto Rally and American Le Mans Series Announce 2011 Partnership
ALMS Becomes Official Racing Series of Go Green Auto Rally; Designed to Entertain and Help Drivers Reduce Emissions and Save Money
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 2, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, the Go Green Auto Rally (GGAR) named the American Le Mans Series Presented by Tequila Patron (ALMS) their Official Racing Series and released their schedule of events in conjunction with the ALMS. The partnership represents a first of its kind demonstration of the link between racing and consumer eco-driving.
The GGAR instructs participants in certain endurance racing techniques and then has them compete in a road rally, not for speed but efficiency. The goal is to teach how everyone can be more efficient with the cars they already own, and even more efficient with new automotive technologies, all without losing the joy of driving. The partnership will see the GGAR as a lead-in event to ALMS races, demonstrating the link between racing and road applications, featuring new offerings from automakers, while also promoting the race in that market.
"The American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patron has taken motorsports back to its heritage, demonstrating consumer relevant technologies on the race track, being the first racing series to embrace multiple energy sources such as second generation E85 ethanol, clean diesel, isobutanol, and hybrid technologies. Our Green Challenge, operated in cooperation with the EPA and the DOE has been ground-breaking, with Corvette, Mazda, Audi and Porsche all notably competing and winning. So it is especially exciting for us to have a partnership which can demonstrate to consumers the relevance of racing directly in their own daily driving," comments ALMS CEO Scott Atherton. "For 2011, the Go Green Auto Rally platform should be an ideal fit for racing enthusiasts and drivers of all kinds to have an efficient way to learn how to become greener behind the wheel, just like the ALMS teams and their drivers."
Demonstrating that green mobility is available right now, GGAR competitors can see their eco-performance through an on board application downloaded to their smart phone. The GGAR custom application is available now on the iPhone, with Microsoft and Android versions available in early 2011. The special application was developed by Nomadic Solutions to allow drivers to easily measure their emissions and driving style and quickly reduce their environmental impact. The technology is at the heart of the GGAR competition and allows rally officials to compare one driver's performance against another.
"The Go Green Auto Rally couldn't be more pleased to have the ALMS as a sponsor and we feel our use of new eco-technologies and endurance racing techniques made this a natural fit. This is an exciting moment for all us as we move into next year," says Go Green Auto Rally Chief Steward and long time racing official, Tim Mayer. "The world's greenest racing series has decided to team up with the Go Green Auto Rally and our mutual goal is to entertain while educating everyone how any driver can become more green.'"
