Good Stuff: A Pop Up Experience of Living Well in the Circular Economy
NEW YORK, May 13, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Good Stuff is a pop up experience of living well in the circular economy, May 31st through June 28th, 2019, at South Street Seaport.
Good Stuff will feature "good new" clothing and home goods (sustainable/ethical), "good used" (curated/appealing), and "good fixes" (repair and service for what you love), and "thoughtful stuff," a series of deep-dive panels, hands-on workshops for adults and children, and wildcard events.
Our current linear system of production and consumption is broken. Our stuff is implicated in social and environmental impacts across the globe. And it doesn't even work on an individual level: shows like "Hoarders" and Marie Kondo reveal a growing hunger for a new way to think about the things we bring into our homes.
This immersive experience proposes a simple, achievable path towards a new model of consumption. The Good Stuff space is designed as a home environment with living, dining, bedroom, and closet installations featuring the brands and thought leaders who are building the circular economy, today.
Good Stuff is created by Sandra Goldmark, Associate Professor of Professional Practice, Barnard College and Founder of Fixup. This event is co-hosted by Fixup and Lauren Fay, Founder of The New Fashion Initiative.
It's time for a coherent, comprehensive vision for moving forward. Good Stuff takes a page from the food movement, adapting Michael Pollan's vision for simple, healthy eating: Have good stuff, not too much, mostly reclaimed. Care for it. Pass it on.
Partners include Faire.Shop, Apt Deco, Pact Organics, Closed Loop, For Days, Linhaus, Burrow, Renewal Workshop, Second Chance Toys, and Howard Hughes Corporation. Speakers include Brendan Synnott, founder of Pact Organic and Bear Naked, Deborah Drew from World Resources Institute, Agustina Besada from Unplastify, Elizabeth Cline, author of Overdressed and John Oppermann, Earth Day Initiative and more. Finally, Good Stuff will include a repair shop with drop-off service and hands-on workshops led by REI, Fixup, ReMade in Brooklyn, Benita Robledo, Debra Rapaport, and more.
