Good Vibrations Announces Upcoming Donation Partner: Clitoraid
Pioneering Adult Retailer's GiVe Program Supports Sexual Pleasure for Patients Undergoing Reconstructive Surgery to Repair Female Genital Mutilation
SAN FRANCISCO, March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Good Vibrations, http://www.goodvibes.com/content.jhtml?id=GiVe-Donations-Sponsorship, the legendary San Francisco-based retailer that takes pride in providing accurate information on sexuality and toys for grown-ups, is proud to announce its upcoming quarterly partnership with Clitoraid as part of their corporate giving initiative, "GiVe."
This Summer, Good Vibrations' customers can give the gift of pleasure to women around the world who suffered female genital mutilation (FGM) during childhood. They can do this by making a financial gift to Clitoraid http://www.clitoraid.org at the time of their Good Vibrations purchase. Clitoraid, a nonprofit humanitarian organization, helps women restore their ability to enjoy sex by offering reconstructive surgery free of charge.
So far Clitoraid has performed 19 surgeries at the St. Joseph hospital in Trinidad, Colorado and are building what has been dubbed "the pleasure hospital" in Burkina Faso, a land-locked country in sub-Saharan West Africa that will be devoted solely to this practice. One hundred women are already scheduled for surgery. Dr. Marcy Bowers became the first U.S. surgeon to successfully perform this type of restorative surgery in 2009.
Says Good Vibrations' Chief Operating Officer, Jackie Strano, "Good Vibrations was founded on the principle that pleasure is a birthright. We support the women on their journey back to reclaiming their bodies, their pleasure, their birthright."
In March 2010 Good Vibrations sent a big box of bath and body treats and vibrators to new patients undergoing reconstructive surgery in Colorado. Patients were from Asia, Canada, the US, Europe, and Africa, and they were eager to discover what they were missing. Good Vibrations partnered with Vibratex, the creators of the Magic Wand vibrator, to incorporate high-quality toys into the post-op physical therapy sessions with esteemed sexologist and sex educator Betty Dodson.
Among the recent recipients of the Good Vibrations care packages was a woman who had undergone surgery several months prior, and had yet to experience an orgasm from her reconstructed clitoris. One night the head of patient care got a call at midnight from an ecstatic woman who apologized for waking her but had to share: with the help of her new vibrator, she had her first orgasm!
