Good50: A New User-Friendly Search Engine Debuts

ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- A 16-year-old high school student has created a search engine based on simplicity and transparency for the user. The new search engine is now available for the public at http://www.good50.com.

Sunmee Huh is a junior and honor student in Richard Montgomery's International Baccalaureate program (Rockville, MD), and after seeing her grandpa struggling to search the web, she wanted to develop a search engine for him and others like him. She says, "Last December during winter break, I made Good50 using Google custom search technology. When I showed it to my neighbors and friends, they liked it because it was much easier to use. Then I realized that Good50 is not only for older adults like my grandpa, but for everyone, including young kids and people who spend a lot of time on the computer."

Sunmee believes people will have a more pleasant search experience with Good50 because of these two reasons:

1. Good50 Is Health-Friendly.

Good50's search box is larger compared to those of other popular search engines. Also, Good50 gives the user an option to view search results with a larger font size. These features of Good50 will reduce eye strain and help to prevent Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). Some possible symptoms of CVS include headaches, dry and/or red eyes, fatigue, and neck or back pain. Sunmee says, "I know teenagers like myself and even younger school-age children, including my little brother and sister, are spending increasing amounts of time staring at a computer screen. Using Good50 can be one way to relieve some of that stress from one's eyes."

2. Good50 Has Less Ads.

Many search engines have text ads linked to sponsor websites at the top of the results. Because the format in which the ads are displayed is very similar to the format of the true search results, separating organic results from the text ads can be difficult. Therefore, on Good50, all text ads from the top are eliminated. The user still can view relevant ads, which are clearly marked off on the side.
