GotoCamera Launches Easy and Affordable Home & Office Monitoring Service at DEMO Fall 2010, Disrupting Security and Surveillance Industry Worldwide
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- GotoCamera, a Software-as-a-Service solution that makes it easy and affordable for non-technical Internet consumers worldwide to watch over their homes, families, pets, and small businesses using webcams they already own, today launched its service at DEMO Fall 2010, with free access through September 30, 2010.
Conventional systems require expensive new equipment to be purchased and are often difficult for non-technical Internet consumers to set up and use. GotoCamera is easy and works with the standard USB and integrated webcams that consumers already own. It has been designed for use by the "average Joe". Mark Shiels, a beta subscriber, said, "It's so easy, my grandma could set it up." The freemium GotoCamera service enables over 300 million webcam owners (IDC, Sys-com) to immediately start using their existing webcams to monitor the people, places, and items that matter to them the most.
GotoCamera also announced an app that is set to disrupt the security & surveillance industry: a free mobile app that enables consumers to transform their old/redundant smartphone's into video surveillance devices. With consumers replacing their mobile phones approximately every 18.7 months (Commscore), and 180 million smartphones sold in 2009 alone (Gartner), GotoCamera now enables an increasing base of subscribers to re-purpose redundant smartphones. Co-Founder and CEO Varun Arora said: "Not only can we use our old smartphones for in-home monitoring, we now enable a whole new paradigm: affordable, dynamic monitoring. When we go out with our friends for a meal, we leave our 7-year-old son at their home, so all the kids can play together. We simply leave my old N95 in the playroom, connected to our friends' wifi network, and my wife is able to "check in" on the kids at any time, giving her tremendous peace of mind."
In addition to making this breakthrough application free, GotoCamera has decided to open source the software, enabling the developer community worldwide to build applications and additional features for many other phone models. Said Co-Founder and CTO Li Yi: "Our GotoCamera team stand ready to support our colleagues in the developer community with advice and testing, so together we can enable consumers worldwide - including consumers in India and China where mobile penetration is significantly higher than PC penetration - to benefit from the peace of mind such a service provides."
Said Matt Marshall, executive producer of DEMO, "GotoCamera represents the new wave of businesses that are bringing together the cost efficiencies of Web distribution with the provision of meaningful services that have the ability to profoundly affect Internet consumers' lives around the world."
The GotoCamera service is free through September 30, 2010, after which it will be offered as a basic free service, and a paid full service offered at an invitation price of $29.95 per year. Free users can set up 1 camera, recording schedules with free storage, and receive mobile text motion detection alerts. Full service subscribers who sign up at the invitation price will be able to use up to 4 cameras, receive streaming video, receive additional recording storage, and price protection for at least the first 2 years.
The GotoCamera service is offered by Pechora Technologies, a Singapore-based privately funded company. The service is made available directly to consumers via the Web, and also in partnership with leading telcos, ISPs, webcam manufacturers, and security integrators.
