Gov. Pataki and Chairman Paul Ryan Convene to Address Debt Solutions
Nation's economic future must remain priority one for lawmakers and candidates
NEW YORK, June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former New York Governor George Pataki, honorary chairman of No American Debt, will host a non-partisan symposium on Capitol Hill on Thursday, June 16, to discuss the nation's growing debt crisis. House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan will headline the symposium billed: "The Budget and Smart Tax Reform." This event will feature a discussion on tax code and potential smart policy reforms by a panel of experts. No American Debt is a new 501 (c)(4) issue advocacy organization focused on paying down the national debt and ensuring the federal debt is addressed by President Obama and the Republican politicians running for president.
In announcing the event, Governor Pataki said:
America's $14 trillion debt is the foremost economic threat facing our country. I applaud Paul Ryan for his leadership in presenting a serious blueprint for paying down the debt without raising tax rates in the midst of a recession.
As Republican presidential hopefuls continue on the campaign trail, they must consider all policy debate in the broader context of this anchor on American growth. A failure to alleviate the drag of this albatross on our economy is a failure for our nation's future. Any credible candidate for president must have a plan that addresses both entitlement spending and tax reform.
The Budget and Smart Tax Reform Policy Briefing breakfast will be held June 16, 2011, at 8:30 a.m. in the House Budget Committee Hearing Room, 210 Cannon House Office Building.
